With Chinese New Year just a day away, everyone is getting ready to welcome the next animal in the Chinese Zodiac, the Dog. Typically coined as “man’s best friend”, dogs are known to be loyal, down-to-earth, strong-willed and out-going.
This year is welcoming the Earth Dog, symbolizing good fortune. So if you want to have your own share of that fortune, here are some ways to help keep the Lunar New Year spirits up by celebrating the Year of the Earth Dog in a variety of ways!
#5 Watch a Dog-themed Movie
Hachiko, Shaggy Dog, and A Dog’s Purpose are just some of the many movies you can watch to give you a better view of how our furry friends feel. Whether streaming them online or watching them on Netflix, there’s a wide arsenal of dog-themed movies that are just waiting for you! Just make sure that you bring your tissues because some of them will make you tear up.
#4 Visit your nearest Starbucks Branch
You may wonder why but, as they do every year, Starbucks is doing a promotion on the Lunar New Year featuring a variety of products featuring adorable dogs. From their card to cups, and to even their tumblers, you can always have a quick coffee-stop at your nearest Starbucks Coffee Shop and grab a mug just to get on the hype this Year of the Dog!
See where the nearest branch is here.
#3 Visit Barkin’ Blends Café
If you’re not into the commercial coffee, but still want to experience your fair share of dogs, what better way than to visit some dogs? Barkin’ Blends Café allows you to have your coffee experience and your encounters with dogs all in one! Though you have to remember that you must buy food in order to have time to pet the available dogs, the experience is sure worth it if you’re after the love that these pups have. And don’t worry! The little pups take turns in order to make sure none of them are stressed or stretched out too thin!
#2 Volunteer for Dogs via PAWS
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has been a dedicated group to help protect and rehabilitate not just dogs, but all sorts of animals. You can volunteer for PAWS here, but remember that there is a certain kind of commitment attached to this! But, there’s nothing that says spirit more than committing yourselves to a good cause, right? All for the doggos!
You can visit the PAWS website here, or PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC), Aurora Blvd. Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
#1 Get a dog!
There is no better way to get into the Lunar New Year spirit, celebrating the Year of the Dog, than by getting one for yourself or your family! The little pups are as loyal as can be and are excellent companions and protectors. The Tiendesitas Pet Village, as well as pet stores in malls such as Bio Research, are just some of the few places you can get your dog.
Not the type to buy? Why not adopt! PAWS also encourages adopting dogs since there are so many dogs that need nice, loving homes. You can make adoption your first option here.
Well what are you waiting for? Let’s all get into the spirit of the Lunar New Year this Year of the Dog! It will be twelve years ‘til we can seize this chance again!
